Papers of David Moore. 1980-1988.

David Moore was commissioned by William Collins to produce "Australia : image of a nation 1850-1950" which was published in 1983. The book is a visual record of all aspects of life in Australia - urban and rural life, domestic life, employment, leisure, transport, communications, celebrations, religious and social events, race relations, calamities and war and peace. The collection consists of press, reproduction and working prints, with an index to the latter. There are also overprints, caption working sheets, a final typescript of text, printer's layouts, overlays, slides, notes and background information relating to the publication.

Photographer and writer. David Moore (1927-2003) began his career at the studio of renowned photographer Max Dupain, where his photographic work included industrial subjects, advertising set-ups, and concert artistes. In 1951 David Moore left for London, and was the first Australian photo-journalist to work consistently for the international picture magazines during the 1950s.
